Why are car insurance rates only based on gender?

Logically, shouldn't other other factors like race, religious affiliation, and nationality also be considered? Not just gender?

Statistical discrimination is interesting in what factors people choose to look at.

I should point out though, that's it's not just gender that is considered. Location, age, driving history, distance from work, the car you have and other factors are a part of the equation too.

Add: Jessica makes a good point about sexism being more politically correct than racism.

Evidently religion and nationality don't matter to the likelihood of getting into an accident or to getting a car stolen. Geographic location may be able to serve as proxy for race...so that's covered. It's alll about statistics... young people get into more accidents, and particularly young males. Those are facts. Doesn't matter if you don't like them.

And there's a real reason that womens' shirts are more expensive to launder. The pressing machines are not designed to handle smaller womens' shirts - they need to be ironed by hand which takes more time. Because it takes more time, we need to cover the additional cost. It's a business, not a.charity. Just the same as the insurance industry.

Apparently, guys get the short end of the stick. In my town, especially in my high school parking lot, most of the accidents (not a insane wreck, but hitting the car and denting them up) are caused by women. I have yet to see a male accident in two years. When a woman is driving and I am in the passenger seat, they are either texting, changing the radio, doing their make up, scared by larger vehicles, can't brake properly, and so many problems...I don't see this at all in guys. I believe it is corrupted and that it should be the same rate, male or female, and keep it equal.
The funny thing is, the state expects us to pay for insurance, and they allow this sort of sexist people to run this industry.

Because it's sexist, and sexism is far more acceptable than racism in our society.

You know what p1sses me off? The dry cleaners near my house charges way more for my blouses than my boyfriend's shirts! They charge women more as a practice! I complained, but eh. I just don't go there.

Still...that's some BS.

ADD: Who dry cleans t-shirts? I wear women's oxford shirts, they aren't more delicate. That particular cleaners still charges more.

ADD: It's interesting that they are so much more expensive to launder, yet all of the other dry cleaners in my neighborhood don't charge me more. What you're saying makes sense, but it seems like pretty bad business practice. They must have better machines that can handle the size.

I'll ask them when I next go.

Car insurance debates on here just make me lose faith in humanity.

Sorry for not answering, the insurance should be based on individuals completely, no other influences.
