what I would do if I were them is keep collecting a good salary with the benefits and ignore lying weasels who make demonstrably false claims like this!

Wild fire firefighters make good money, and have good benefits. Not sure where you're getting your information, but it is very wrong.

firefighters while underpaid when they are risking their lives are paid pretty good. They also have fairly good insurance.
