What To Do When Your Auto Insurance Agent Calls You Up And Cries On The Phone And Threatens You, Do You Change

Agents or the Insurance Co?

I filled out a questionare rating how pleased I was with the service from my Insurance Agent, I gave him low marks cause he told me he would raise my auto insurance if I didn't buy homeowners and life insurance from him.

So I wrote that down on the questionare and the Corporate seen that and he almost lost his job

next he calls me up, and cries like a baby and told me if he loses his business or his job I am the one to blame

What would you do?

Nothing, it's his own doing.
Move on, at least now he'll think about trying to rip off someone else.

You were asked for your opinion of his service, you gave your opinion of his service.
How he reacted is his problem, not yours.
Perhaps he learned, he can't go around threatening his clients.

Ignore him and/or switch agents

If you like your present insurance company and their rates, then at the very least, switch agents.
But as others said, shop around and compare -- it's a good thing to do every few years anyway.

Don't accept the blame.
You were being honest.
This person is not being honest with himself. Nothing you can do.
He needs to work it out for himself.
Don't take another call.

Well, that's not the way I run my insurance agency.
It's pretty dumb on his part, but I think it actually helps you.

Here's what probably happened.
He probably quoted you a low price, including multi-line discounts for home and life insurance.
Then, the underwriters figured out that he didn't actual write homeowners and life insurance on you, and the underwriters are going to raise your rates accordingly.
So, he was probably telling you the truth, just not the whole truth.

The good news is, now you have this insurance agent where you want him.
You have his attention.
You'd be crazy to move your insurance now.
Every time you call him, he has to jump through hoops, or he thinks you're going to report him.
Leave your insurance there.

Now, this is going to sound like and insurance salesman.
It wouldn't hurt you to have your home and your life insurance at the same company.
In fact, it's smarter.
I would have him quote both of them.
If the rates sound reasonable, then do it.
It's a lot better having an agent thats scared of you than having some 800-LIZARD line to call when you have a problem.

Ignore him; tell him to get a life and stop bothering you. He caused his own problems. You gave the company the honest feedback that they were looking for. If he continues, report this to the company. If all else fails chose another insurance company and/or report the harassment to the police.
