What Should My First Car Be?

also!!! I like older surfer cars. I can't remember what it's called, but my father owned one. it's sort of a hatch back. I don't like "muscle" cars, either. Speed isn't too important, but it has to at least have some sort of pick-up. Also... I need something affordable, but other than that price isn't too big of an object seeing as I won't be paying for it with my own money. I don't like cookie cutter cars-like the jetta or a newer accord. They're fine and everything... just not for me. Also, I need fuel efficiency, and it can't be a stick shift. I live in Los Angeles, and it'd be too hard for a beginning driver.

Your first car should be one that will not break your heart when it gets wrecked or breaks down on you to the point you can not afford to fix it. Cheap enough to pay cash for so that if it is totaled there need not be a big insurance claim on it.
