the deductible is the amount you have to spend before insurance pays anything. So if you had a $10,000 annual deductible your pretty much not going to get anything paid for unless you get really sick.

It means that you must pay the first $10,000 of medical expenses before the insurance company will pay anything. A yearly physical and prescription drugs are usually not subject to deductibles, but require co-pays that may not go against the deductible. A $10K individual deductible plan really sucks!
