I'm 26 Weeks Pregnant And Don't Work And My Current Insurance Isn't Paying For Hardly Any Of My Medical Bills?

Postby tanner » Wed Oct 11, 2017 3:05 am

My mother pays for my insurance it's Mega Life and they haven't been paying for hardly anything. I received a bill that was $650 (consisting of ultrasounds and other pregnancy related test) and they had payed for about $75!!! I'm so worried about delivery I want to find insurance that will help me more! My Mom is currently of no help and I know nothing about insurance and how i should go about it all what i should be looking for??? I love in California and i have bee denied for Medi-Cal because my boyfriend (father of the baby) makes to much. His insurance won't cover me unless we are married but will cover the baby as soon as he is born. Also i called Medicare and they said they can't cover me because I don't have a consistent income (I get money at random from my Mom)

Any idea what i can do?

I'm looking at blue cross blue shield of CA at the moment but i don't understand what i should be looking for.

Thanks

First off, I'm sorry you're a victim of Mega. I've been on a crusade for years against this company.

Second, pregnancy is not considered a pre-existing condition on a group policy, and has not been for years. However, with an individual policy it is. In fact, no insurance company will accept you nor anybody else in the family since you are currently pregnant so you can stop looking at BCBS.

Third, Medicare is for those over 65 or disabled and Medicare doesn't have any maternity benefits anyway. It has nothing to do with a consistent income.

You have two options - pay cash out of pocket for the maternity and delivery charges or marry baby daddy.

Your pregnancy will be considered a pre-existing condition, meaning that even if you could find insurance (which, btw will be expensive), the insurance company will not pay any of the pregnancy-related expenses.
To use an analogy, that would be like getting car insurance after you have had na accident.
