Is Travel Insurance Worth It?

1. Some types of medical care are not available there, at any price.
If you need medical care that is not available in those countries, some travel insurance pays whatever is necessary to get you back to the U.S., even an air ambulance, if needed.
(When citizens of those countries need medical care not available in those countries, they usually die.)

2. "Cheap" is a relative term.
Even if it costs less than in the U.S., it could still cost more than you can afford.
For example, some medical care in the U.S. costs six million dollars.
Even if it costs only 1/10th of that in those countries, it would still cost $600,000 in those countries.

Travel insurance usually covers a lot more than medical - such as the prepaid trip expenses if you have to cancel, or the cost of getting you back home if you have to cut your trip short for covered reasons.

Whether it's worth it is your decision.

It's worth it if you need it.
There's A LOT more to travel insurance or travel medical insurance than just paying doctors.
What about medical evacuation, repatriation, etc....?

It's so cheap, it's not worth not having.

Is Travel Insurance Worth It?

several years ago, my father booked a trip for he and his companion,. and the terms were " no refunds.""

Three weeks before the trip., he became seriously ill and could not make the trip.

The travel agent told my dad to have his doctor write a letter, verifyinge he was ill and could not go on the trip.

Within days, he received as refund for everything but the cost of the insurance..
So, instead of losing several thousand dollars, he lost about $ 50.00.

Now, tell we " was it worth it.?".
