Is This Considered Cheating..even Though It Isn't?

Postby Rawls » Sat Oct 07, 2017 2:40 pm

Here's the scenario: I'm married. I work at a large institution. There's a huge cafeteria on the bottom level of our building. I work in an office job and work with alot of women of all calibers. More than dozens of times, I've gone to lunch with other women whom I work with. Some are kind of chubby, some mediocre, some 'kinda pretty" Never has anyone said anything to me about it. I was headed down to the cafeteria today and I ran into this girl who's somewhat new--that I've become friends with as well. She is a perfect 10. Probably the hottest blonde girl I've ever seen and that seems to be the consensus amongst other men in the department. Tall, gorgeous body, stunning eyes, you name it. So I run into her in the elevator and she asks where I was going. I told her I was headed to lunch and she said, "Well, I'll join you!" Not a problem.

We go to the cafe where hundreds of others are as well. We have lunch. We talk. We laugh. We finish up and head back to our respective positions. No big deal, right? About an hour after I get back to my desk, I start getting calls. Like 10 of them from other women and men around the deptartment:

Male: "Dude! Are you like hooking up with Marissa? That's so awesome! I thought you were married?"

Female: "Jake, I know you are married and Alexis is a really nice girl. What are you doing?"

Female: "You better not be cheating!"

Female: "Um, I saw you in the cafe with Marissa. is everything okay between you and your wife?"

Male: "You better hit it dude!"

Female: "So how are things between you and Alexis? I just saw you in the cafe with Marissa."

Okay...STOP. Why is it that I can have lunch with a couple chubby girls who are my friends, dozens of times and nobody says a word..NOT ONE. The second I have lunch with a beautiful girl..the rumored 'hottest in the office'---All of a sudden I'm treading in deep water? I love my wife. I'm at work!!! Why does everybody all of a sudden think that I'm engaging in sexual activity with this girl just because I had lunch with her?

Eating lunch in a workplace cafeteria with a co-worker is not cheating and the people who are suggesting something is going on other than lunch are out of line.

Don't get the big head - they're not interested in this because of you, they're interested in this because of HER.
I think you need to get over your weirdly defensive attitude, and start laughing.

Male: "Dude! Are you like hooking up with Marissa? That's so awesome! I thought you were married?"

You: Not unless you call lunch hooking up.
I am married.

Female: "Jake, I know you are married and Alexis is a really nice girl. What are you doing?"

You: Eating lunch.
And thanks, I'll let Alexis know you said that she's nice.

Female: "You better not be cheating!"

You: Not unless lunch qualifies as cheating, and if it does, I've cheated dozens of times since I started working here!

Female: "Um, I saw you in the cafe with Marissa. is everything okay between you and your wife?"

You: What does one have to do with the other? Yeah, everything's great with my wife!

Male: "You better hit it dude!"

You: I hear what you're saying, but in case you didn't know, I'm married.

Female: "So how are things between you and Alexis? I just saw you in the cafe with Marissa."

You: Things are greate between me and Alexis! Yeah, Marissa and I had lunch today.
Why didn't you come over and sit with us?

People like to gossip, you just have to accept that...you aren't the first or last person who has been accused or wondered about when seen with another woman (co-worker or not) that wasn't their spouse...

You might want to tell your wife about it though, just so if she hears a rumor from somewhere she'll know where it started...put that fire out at home, before it ever really starts...

Some folks are idiots and have boring lives so they make up stuff about others for entertainment...that poor chick is probably whispered about sleeping with every guy she associates with, just because she's attractive...

There is why. You even admit so yourself. And lets face it....perception is usually made into fact.

I'll bet the difference in the reaction from your coworkers is because you acted quite differently while lunching with Marissa than you have with those other women you've eaten lunch with.

Is it cheating? You tell me... by honestly answering two questions.

1) If your wife had suddenly appeared at your table while you were enjoying your lunch with Marissa, how would you feel, and how would your wife react?

2) If you learned your wife was having lunch with a male hunk and enjoying herself (including her thoughts/desires) exactly as you did with Marissa, how would you feel?

Be honest with yourself, and act accordingly in the future.
