Aa Repair Cover Not Paying Out For Head Gasket Fault?

Postby Taj » Tue Sep 26, 2017 7:32 am

I bought a Peugeot 206 end of Oct 2012 with a full service history.
2006 plate 40,000 miles on clock. head gasket blew last week, called AA who I have been with since 2008 and made no claim, recovered me to garage of my choice the mechanic diagnosed Head Gasket had gone.
AA have said today that the repair is not covered as in their opinion it is wear and tear and that it was an on going issue with the car (prob when I bought it) and that this was not classed as an "immediate or surprise breakdown".
I added it was a surprise to me etc! The AA also said that they needed to inspect the car when it was "in bits" at the garage but when they got there the car had been fixed.
I am sure my mechanic would have done as they wished had he known! He left the broken parts for their inspector to look at and this is what his decision was based on.They have told me I can complain to their customer care department should I wish.
Not sure what to do though - any help much appreciated!

i received a letter from AA solicitors this morning confirming they would not pay out as the head gasket has gone due to wear and tear.
They would not class this as an "immediate or sudden breakdown" as it should have been something I was aware of??? How the hell would I know? everything was always topped up etc, plus I had only had it 3 months and it has a full service so antifreeze oil etc should have been full topped up anyway.
They say I can respond back if I wish and I WILL!!

A blown head gasket is either due to wear and tear or bad driving!! Not covered. A complaint will do nothing

That's nonsense. A head gasket is in no way normal wear and tear. And it's ridiculous to say it was an ongoing problem. Head gaskets blow when they blow. You were robbed.

Head gasket failure is usually a sign of poor maintenance and in a recently bought car they'll probably say that's why it failed.

All warranty/insurance cover is a waste of money, they'll all try their hardest to weasel out of any claim.

Learn from this, these warrantys are a waste of space, they only cover items that generally never happen, ie (the engine fell out, gearbox went bang etc), shop around for a quote, get in touch with the warranty company and tell them to shove there insurance where the sun don't shine, good luck

Hi Caroline, you have surprised me there with this question as I have AA cover and up too now its been fantastic, providing that you keep your oil and coolant levels at the required levels then in my professional opinion a head gasket can fail at anytime even with correct levels maintained I would be appealing against their descion as you cannot predict when a head gasket will fail
