Practical Math- lesson one. Anyone good with math that can help me with this? Other part.?

I'm clueless with this stuff. I can do normal math, but story problems suck. Can anyone show me how to do this stuff.

Mr. Carson works full time and is a salaried employee, so his paycheck is divided evenly over the year. His gross salary is $38,400 per year and he is paid twice per month.

1) How much is he paid per month?
2) How much is each of his paychecks? ______. Remember that there are two per month.

Mr. Carson's paycheck sounds like a lot of money, but wait; deductions are withheld by Mr. Carson's employer. Let's take a look at those and see how much of that money Mr. Carson takes home (net pay).
3) The first deduction is FICA (social security tax). The amount is 8% of the gross pay. How much is Mr. Carson's FICA deduction per month? ________
4) Per paycheck? ________

The next deduction is Federal Taxes. Mr. Carson has his taxes withheld at a higher rate so he can get a refund in the spring. Let's use the 11% rate.
5) What is the amount of Mr. Carson's Federal Tax Withheld per month? _________.
6) Per paycheck? _______
Next, we'll look at the amount of State taxes withheld. The state the Carsons live in taxes payroll at 3%
7) What is the amount of state tax that will be withheld from Mr. Carson's paycheck per month? _________.

8) Per paycheck? ________

That's it for taxes, but wait; there's more. The Carson's have two types of insurance that are paid for through Mr. Carson's employer.

9) Life insurance deduction is $20.00 per paycheck. How much is that each month? ______.
10) Family Health Insurance costs $160.00 per paycheck. What is the monthly amount? ______
11) What is the amount of Mr. Carson's monthly gross pay? _________
12) What is the amount of Mr. Carson's monthly net pay? ________
13) What is the gross amount of each of Mr. Carson's paychecks? _________
14) What is the net amount of each of Mr. Carson's paychecks? __________

Mr. Carson works full time and is a salaried employee, so his paycheck is divided evenly over the year. His gross salary is $38,400 per year and he is paid twice per month.

1) How much is he paid per month? $38,400/year * 1 year/12 months = $38,400/12 = $3,200/month
2) How much is each of his paychecks? ______. Remember that there are two per month
$3200/month * month/2 paychecks = $1600/paycheck

3 and 4, take the answers to 1 and 2 and multiply by 8%, or 0.08. Repeat for following questions.

9 and 10, just multiply by 2

11 is same as 1.
12, subtract all the MONTHLY deductions to get net pay.

12 and 14, divide 11 and 12 by 2

1. 38400 (annual salary) divide 12 (number of months in year) =3200
2. 3200 per month. 2 payments per month 3200 divide 2 =1600
3. 3200 divide 100 =32. 32x8=256
this should help you to be able to do the rest :)

1. 38400 divided by 12 = 3200
2. 3200 divided by 2 = 1600
3. 38400 * 8% = 256
4. 256 divided by 2 = 128
5. 3200 * 11% = 352
6. 352 divided by 2 = 176
7. 3200 * 3% = 96
8. 96 divided by 2 = 48
9. 20 * 2 = 40
10. 320
11. 3200
12. 2040
13. 1600
14. 1020

1. 38400 divided by 12 = 3200
2. 3200 divided by 2 = 1600
3. 38400 * 8% = 256
4. 256 divided by 2 = 128
5. 3200 * 11% = 352
6. 352 divided by 2 = 176
7. 3200 * 3% = 96
8. 96 divided by 2 = 48
9. 20 * 2 = 40
10. 320
11. 3200
12. 2040
13. 1600
14. 1020
OK - this is real and you should know how to calculate all this!!!

That being said:

1) $3200 per month (divide salary by 12)
2) $1600 per paycheck (half of the month's pay)
3) FICA = $256 per month ($3200 * 0.08)
4) FICA = $128 per paycheck (Half of monthly FICA)
5) Fed. Taxes = $352 (multiply monthly salary by 0.11) per month
6) Fed Taxes = $176 (half the monthly taxes) per paycheck
7) State Taxes = $96 (multiply monthly salary by0.03) per month
8) State Taxes = $48 (half the state taxes) per paycheck
9) Life insurance =$40 (2 deductions each month @$20 each)
10) Family Health = $320 per month (2 per month @ $160 each)
11) Monthly gross pay = $3200 (amount before taxes) per month
12) Monthly Net Pay = $2136 (gross pay minus all taxes and deductions) per month
13) Gross paycheck = $1600 (half of monthly gross pay)
14) Net paycheck = $1068 (half of monthly net pay)
