First of all, medical care in the UK is only free for citizens and residents. What if you hit a tourist or visitor?

Secondly, what about damages to the car and such? Those are not free.

If they required everyone to buy collision insurance, there would be no need for mand liability insurance for property damage, except for the deductible/

Its personal liabilty , if some uninsured driver hit your car who is going to pay for the damage ???, you end up taking them to court and usually end up worse off...
