If Obamacare Is So Awful, Why Are The People Of Massachusetts So Happy With Romneycare?

Postby Tsiishchili » Sun Sep 24, 2017 10:19 am

Which, I might add, is virtually identical to Obamacare? Romney's home state seems to be quite happy with the provisions in his heath care bill, which also includes the same tax/penalty for those who refuse to buy heath insurance as the Obama bill. How can one bill be GOOD, and an identical bill somehow be BAD?!? Unless of course it's all pure politics, as usual.

It's just partisan politics. The individual mandate was originally a Republican idea that Mitt Romney once described as ultimate conservatism.

They are happy because its not awful.
The same reason Hawaii has been happy with healthcare provided (100%) by their state for the past 40 years. Without that worry, you can seek a career according to your talents instead of where you can get benefits or if you leave the job with good benefits, it will be without worry that you will lose the insurance. I can't imagine that joy.

Because Massachusetts is dominated by liberals, and liberals have no idea what mess they got themselves into.

The people of Massachusetts are not "so happy with Romneycare".
Some are, some aren't.
No one likes the individual mandates.
The first link below has some interviews with people that show it's a mixed bag.

One is not GOOD, the other BAD - the second link below shows that in many key areas, Romneycare has had either a negative effect or no effect at all.
The two things that it DID improve is access to insurance and the reduction of emergency room visits - but there is no evidence that it did anything to make people healthier, after an initial dip in premium costs they have risen again to pre-Romneycare levels, there are far fewer doctors accepting new patients, and healthcare costs have risen faster than national levels.

The areas in which Romneycare has failed are major points of concern about Obamacare, and major points where proponents of Obamacare fail to offer anything but lip service.
Doctors are "full" - not accepting new patients.
Healthcare costs rising, not falling, because there are no market forces keeping them down.
Access to healthcare does not result in healthier lifestyles or healthier people.

The big, huge, major difference is this - Romney did it - he has seen the results, and he has NO PLAN to do it again.
His healthcare proposal is on his website - it involves increased competition among insurers, greater access to private insurance by REDUCING regulations on selling insurance across state lines, TAX INCENTIVES for INDIVIDUALS who want to buy insurance, not just for corporations, and a REDUCTION in non-medical "roll of the dice" tort awards for malpractice cases.

I don't understand why people are ignoring what Romney plans to DO, and argue about what he DID.
It's a different time, there is a different national mood, he has seen the public reaction not only to Romneycare but to Obamacare - he has seen the failures and has a different idea.
Why do people not get that?

Obama, on the other hand, sees one thing and one thing only - that the passage of Obamacare is a signature accomplishment for him politically and he cannot fail.
It's not about whether or not it will work - by the time we find that out the election will be over and it doesn't matter.
It's about his own political capital and his legitimacy as president.

No ROMNEYCARE and OBAMACARE are not the same bill at all.

Romneycare : 70 PAGE BILL

Obamacare : 2,074 PAGE BILL

CONSTITUTIONALITY OF BILL

Romneycare: CONSTITUTIONAL

Obamacare: DEEMED UNCONSTITUTIONAL in terms of INDIVIDUAL MANDATE and the COMMERCE CLAUSE BUT CONSTITUTIONAL: ONLY REASON IT WAS WRITTEN UP AS A "TAX"

Romneycare: STRONG BI-PARTISAN SUPPORT, POPULAR AMONG MASS. PUBLIC, CONSENSUS BUILT TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL MANDATE

Obamacare: NO BI-PARTISAN SUPPORT, UNPOPULAR NATION WIDE 76% AMERICANS AGAINST IT, NO CONSENSUS BUILT TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL MANDATE

Romneycare: ONLY INCREASED 1% of states BUDGET with NO NEW TAXES as Romney BALANCED the BUDGET in Massachusetts

Obamcare: 500 BILLION NEW TAXES CUTS TO MEDICARE, Overall COST UNKNOWN at this point

FEDERALISM of BILL:

Romneycare: COLLABORATION CREATED A CONSENSUS AMONG STAKE HOLDERS to SUPPORT NEW LAW

Obamacare: DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT EACH STATE IS UNIQUE REGARDING DEBTS OF EACH STATE, UNINSURED IN EACH STATE, SOME STATES CAN'T AFFORD NEW HEALTHCARE, CONSERVATIVE STATES WILL REJECT IT

ROMNEY WILL ISSUE WAIVER TO OPT OUT TO ALL 50 STATES REGARDING OBAMACARE if he GETS IN AS PRESIDENT

The people of Mass are NOT happy with Romneycare.

The only ones that like it are the poor and people on welfare that can get insurance for seven bucks a month (and even then they ***** about the seven bucks).
Rates for most people in Mass have more than doubled.
