Yesterday I had my hearing for my appeal to get my unemployment benefits. I live in CA. My previous employers did not attend the hearing. Im a construction laborer in boston. Its basically an entry level job in the construction field. I make $30+ an hour with full benefits, pension, and annuity. Some of the "skilled tradesmen" make more than that. So why is it that we continue to hear that, among other jobs, construction worker is one of those jobs that Americans don't want to do? Hi everyone!
I currently have an contract offer where I have 2 options:

1) 1099: Pay Rate = $57/hr

2) W2: Pay Rate = $49.30/hr (includes Employer Taxes i.e. federal, state, unemployment insurance, workers comp insurance etc.) + In addition I will also have to pay Employee Taxes (Federal, State etc.) which they say might come to about $2000 a month in taxes withheld.

Which one seems like a better option? I am a single ...

Ok I was checking to see what I would have to pay if I had a job that did 1099 forms. and I worked 40 hrs a week got paid 8 dollars and hr for a whole year?

A. The time its takes to implement a policy ones a problem has been identitfied.

C.The idea that recession are short , so by the time a policy is created the recession has ended
D.The time between when a person becomes unemployed and when their unemployment insurance begins

I strongly support the limited but important US social safety net -- Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance, and in many cases private health care insurance paid for by employers.

But the fact is, the way these things are financed DOES make it cheaper to "outsource" work than to hire full-time employees in the US.

I recently was notified that I would be laid off from a job that I had for over 10 years. It seems that based on my 10 years tenure at the job, I would get decent EI (unemployment insurance) benefits.
