I Lost My Job And I Feel Like Hurting Myself?

Postby kendric » Sun Oct 01, 2017 11:29 am

I got hired a few months ago for a business job, and I spent a few hundred on business items, like a laptop case, business clothes, etc.

My boss just said they won't need me and this is my two week notice. It's just that someone more experienced filled my position and they can't afford me.

I'm not bummed out that they "rejected" me, because my own parents did that and I left an abusive home situation earlier this year. I feel like killing myself becauseI am HOPELESS.

My other job barely pays much, just above minimum wage and I've lived off student loans till I got this job. This job looks great on my resume but I don't know what to do anymore. I need to pay for gas and food or I can't go to college; I just lost my health insurance and have to pay for oral surgery out of pocket. They are impacted and HURT SO much. Now I have to CANCEL all that because I will no longer be receiving a paycheck.

I had just started saving and eating healthy because I could finally afford it. Now I will be broke by the New Year. I am SO depressed. What should I do? I am a 19 & a junior in college. I don't want to tell my friends because I am ashamed, and I have no family.

Fortunately you are in college.
Visit your school's financial aid office or counseling department and tell them what has happened and how you feel. They will not turn you away without at least giving you some resources for help.

There is no reason to want to kill yourself! I am not sure what state you are in, but there are a lot of programs that I am sure you can go to if you need food. Sometimes, telling one of your friends who you know wont judge you could be the best thing for you! They may be able to help out or help you get into the right direction. Keep applying to jobs non-stop and I am sure one will come soon. Don't keep this problem to yourself, telling someone can be the best thing you can do!

Do not be ashamed. It's not your fault you're in this terrible position. Tell your friends...you need support right now and what good are friends if you can't rely on them when times get tough.

Why not take more student loans and live at school? Just keep going to school on loans and worry about paying them backt when the economy gets better.

Go to your city hospital and tell them you need surgery but don;t have the money to pay for it. They may be able to get you on free insurance that will cover it. They will also help you with your depression.

First off, never feel ashamed! You sound like a very hard working individual and in life, you have friends so that you can lean on them during trying times (such as this one).

Second, I am sorry you were laid off. Please remember that in today's economy, you really can't view losing a job as being "rejected". Companies are doing what they need to survive and to a company, workers are just numbers so again, please don't take that personally.

Third, you are a strong person! You mentioned that you left an abusive home situation so obviously you have been through a lot. Honestly, if you can handle that- you can definitely handle anything that is being thrown at you now.

Ok so a few other things you can and should look into-->

1. Can you look into getting on a school health plan. Many schools offer student insurance options. 2. You can also speak with your oral surgeon about getting on a monthly payment plan so that you can have the surgery you need. You should really share your story with the dental office- at this point, it can't hurt, right?

3.
If you have student loans, can you maybe look into increasing them? I do believe that as a junior and senior, you qualify for a bit more than freshman and sophmore year.

4. I am a recent college graduate who faced many of the same issues financially and my solution was Ramen noodles. Yes- they contain an unhealthy amount of sodium, however use only 1/4- 1/2 of the seasoning packet and to make it a bit more nutritious, throw in some frozen veggies. Oatmeal in the morning is also a great inexpensive option :).

REMEMBER--> Everyone falls or gets knocked off the boat sometimes. Just try and get back on the boat as fast you got off and everything will fall into place. If you lose your job- immediately start looking for a new one (don't forget to look at school- they often offer great employment opportunties)

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
