Long stay travel insurance recommendations for the US for 3 months working?

Postby dubh65 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 6:36 am

I'm going out to work in New York at summer camp from the 17th of June for 9 weeks I then plan to travel after, I dont want to take out camp americas insurance as it soo expensive and doesn't cover me after camp.

I'm looking for insurance from 17th June till september 10th 2011.

and here are the rules:

The policy has an A+ rating.

Participants are permitted to obtain their own insurance. However, as your programme sponsor, Camp America is required by the US Department of State, to check your insurance coverage to ensure it meets minimum US State Department requirements for J1 visa participants. Therefore, please can you check your policy to ensure it meets the following criteria:-
A+ rated (or backed by the full faith and credit of your home government)
covers you for working at camp including activities you are likely to undertake at camp
covers the full period of time you are in the US
covers the United States
has medical benefits of at least US$50,000 per accident or illness
has repatriation of remains in the amount of US$7,500
has medical evacuation expenses to your home country in the amount of US$10,000
the deductible must not exceed US$500 per accident or illness

can anyone find any or make recommendations?

thanks

Hayley.

Search the internet for P J Hayman - they offer great policies for long stay travel, working holidays, backpacking, adventure/sport trips etc. Or speak to your local insurance broker and ask them about Haymans. There are other insurers who also do cover for your type of trip, this but as a broker myself I find Haymans to be best for trips like yours.

EDIT
Haymans are in the UK, and I assumed the query was from the UK. I am a broker who deals with 8 travel insurers, but for this type of trip would highly recommend Haymans out of those 8.

I'm a banker, but not an agent. If you send me an email, I will get you in touch with an agent.

I've never heard of "Haymans." You just need to find an insurance broker that represents MULTIPLE companies that you can search and quote on their web site. IMG, Seven Corners, and HCC Medical are the biggies in the US.
