Is It Legal For A Business To Instantly Cut Working Hours For Lack Of Money But Still Hire More Staff?

Postby norwell » Sun Sep 24, 2017 11:53 pm

my husband works at mcdonalds full time he checked his rota and they had put him on 3 days a week and the manager said these are hour cuts as we cant afford to pay you all yet they have taken on 6 more staff ! we are a family with 2 children the last thing we want is to go on benefits so im trying to help him find a second job or a new full time job while he works the crazy hours they give him at work. is this legal? would anyone know from experience if doing 2 jobs to equal one full time job would still work out as well as doing one full time job ?

where are you? laws vary greatly based on location/jurisdiction.....

in the US:

this has NOTHING to do with employers who don't want to pay for benefits for full-time employees since benefits are NOT required for any employee....

and most fast food restaurants are franchise owned and do NOT pay for health-care and won't be in the future. the new laws do NOT require the employer to pay for health care, it requires them to offer a group policy, the employee must make the decision to join or get their insurance from another source....

businesses offer benefits to attract, and retain the best possible employees, they have done this for years and will continue to...

those who want to criticize the affordable health care act are welcome to but at least state FACTS not just what your conservative commentators tell you....

it's perfectly legal.

mcdonald's and about five other large fast food outfits have all said that they're reducing staff hours so that they won't have to pay for ObamaCare for the employees.

brought to you by your friends in Washington, who think you're going to re-elect them because they deserve it.

Yes, it is legal.
It just sounds like they want ALL employees at minimum wage with no benefits.

They cut hours so they don't have to pay benefits.

When you hubby is not working he should spend his time at the library.
Find a field in which he wants to work, read everything possible and educate himself.
It's the only way he will make a living wage for you and his family.

There are millions of self taught people who are very successful.
Education is the key.

It is legal.
They are saying they do not value him as an employee.
He needs to get another job.

2 jobs works, but the stress on him doubles.
Twice as many uniforms, different rules, and so on.
