he's on a low dose steroid but is there anything else i can do/give him the vets are so expensive and i don't have pet insurance ..... i know tut tut

Don't advoid the vet, it could just make things worst.
Just make him feel comfortable all the time

Sounds like it could be a hotspot. I would apply some Mane Tail Groom, and take him to the vet to confirm it's a hotspot.

If you have a pet, you really shouldn't avoid the vet.

It may not be eczema, it could be small mites on your dogs skin.
