My kitchen ceiling has caved in, can I sue House Of Fraser?

Postby burneig » Thu Jun 07, 2012 2:06 pm

I came home this morning from a holiday I had been on, only to find that my kitchen ceiling has totally caved in! My home insurance won't cover ceiling collapses in any rooms.

I am confused at where I stand with this this problem. Can I sue House Of Fraser for the damage?

Why House of Fraser
Who owns the house and what caused the ceiling to collapse
your buildings insurance should cover it, but you'd need to tell us what caused it
home insurance covers contents, not fixtures

I don't understand why you blame House of Frazer for this. You most have a supporing wall above the ceiling which was built on the Fllor joists and if you had cenral heating installed, the plumbers have cut too deep into the joists to run their pipes. This has weakened the joists enough to bring the ceiling down. This can happen over a few years after the C/H was installed. I have seeen this happen in a few properties.

Just checkout the pipes and your taps, may be it would be leak. So you have to repair it and dont worry just find a good plumber and relax.....

By "whole ceiling caved in", do you mean just the drywall? If so, check for water leaks!
