How will Americans afford "mandatory" fines if they can't afford your required health - care for them?

Postby aisley » Sun Jan 29, 2012 3:36 am

It is our "choice" according to our civil & birth right to choose if we can afford health-care. Obama care, from what I understand, imposes a "fine" towards Americans who do not purchase some kind of health-care plan. To me & others, this is dictatorial. If someone cannot afford health-care in program to begin with why should "we" pay for it!? And why be punished!? No matter if the fine may be less or more then what the health-care insurance plan may cost, it is still an invisible tax imposed on the American people. Poor people & even the middle class will yet be the ones hit again with a demand too high to reach. We do not need any more "hoops" to wallow through to jumping down some other rabbit hole. If Americans cannot pay for a plan anyway, it's not going to do any good to make up a "law" stating to get a health-care plan if being fined is the result and not health - care for all. Law or not, if people cannot afford it to begin with, making it "law" will not change this for us...just make it worse.

I live in MA and we already have what amounts to Obamacare here. If you do not have health insurance, then when it comes time to do your taxes, you're fined depending on how many months you've missed.

My uncle couldn't afford healthcare and yet he also has to pay a $2500 fine now, so how can he afford healthcare if he couldn't before on top of the fine. This is why the individual mandate aspect of Obamacare sucks.

Oh, btw, our medical insurance premiums have done nothing but go UP, so how this is helping lower the burden on medical insurance, I don't know.

People who can't afford to buy the health care aren't covered by the mandatory purchase requirements, and they are able to take advantage of lower cost or free care to which they already had access prior to the new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

I'm confused about why you think it's "dictatorial" to get people to simply obey the law that has been passed by a democratically-elected Congress. It is dictatorial that the government requires you to wear a seatbelt? They it requires you not to litter? That it requires you to pay into social security? These are all laws passed by the government that We the People elected. It has nothing to do with anyone being a dictator. The law was passed by both houses of Congress.

Take a stab at reading the actual law and not just the Republican talking points on it. If you haven't noticed, conservatives don't care about the poor and just use scare tactics like this to try to get votes. The Republican party only cares about the wealthiest people and corporations who pay to make sure those old white guys stay in power.

As long as you earn under $88K per year you can get a tax credit which pays you back for signing up for mandatory health insurance. Yes there is a fine or tax if you dont buy insurance. There is a hardship and a religious exemption as well as those already insured or on Medicaid and Medicare. The so-called punishment is a way to get everyone to buy insurance. Poor people and working people who cannot afford insurance even with employers paying partial premium, will be able to buy a policy tailored to their needs and budget from an exchange, just like Congress has a choice. People who are turned down because of an existing medical condition wont be excluded from being insured. The object is to get everyone to buy their own insurance. Even with a subsidy it is a lot cheaper than Medicaid picking up the bills for uninsured people going to an ER.

We all have to obey the law even if we dont agree with it.

You may want to look over the Health Care Act website and the 2014 provision.
