How Do I Find Individual Health Insurance?

Postby Staerling » Fri May 19, 2017 6:13 am

I'm 19, my mum just lost her job and my insurance has ended. I am a sickly person- I also have heart problems therefore I need to see my cardiologist, and it seems as if I'm always in the hospital. Most of the insurance plans I see say you have to pay the first payment, but I cannot afford that.. I need coverage on hospital, doctor, vision, gyno, dental. (those are all I can think of that I need) This is just very stressful to me. Makes it almost worth it to move out of the country at this point if I had enough money to. How do I find the right insurance plan that covers all of that?

Thanks.

You would need a policy that accepts preexisting conditions. I once had one that would take patients with preexisting conditions by paying a one time fee of $1000 to cover that problem. You would need that. You may need to check into government assistance if you are not able to work and can't afford private health insurance.

Most individual plans won't take on anyone who has the medical problems that you do.

Unless you live in one of the very few states where they have to take everyone, just apply for any individual health insurance plan.
It does not matter which one, or whether you can afford it, because they will all reject you.
After you get their rejection in writing, apply for your state's preexisting condition plan, managed risk pool, or similar program.
That is all that you will be able to get.
And it will cost you between $200 and $3000 per month.

If you were on your mothers' policy and she was just recently let go, she might still be eligible for coverage under Cobra.
The premiums will be high but coverage should be available.
Since you have major prior problems you will have difficulty finding a policy of your own.
Good Luck
