How do I deal with feeling anxious about getting my first car?

Postby hania82 » Wed Aug 15, 2012 3:06 pm

I got my permit one week ago and just finished driving training. I am about to take driving test at DMV next week. I plan to buy a car right now but just have no clue what to buy. There are just so many things I have to consider like car insurance, safety features, and bulletproof windows... The other problem is that I don't wanna go anywhere until I have my own car. I just hate taking public transit or walking places. But it's really bugging me that I still don't have a car and a real driver license! I don't know... I am probably just worried about driving test. What do you think?

How do I deal with feeling anxious about getting my first car?

I think your getting ahead of yourself. One thing at a time. Think about your needs vs. your wants. Talk with a trusted insurance agent that your family has been with. See what cars are the best to insure that are low on the most stolen lists. See what discounts they can throw on if you have other family members doing business with them as well. You didn't mention if your buying out right or financing. A lot to consider there. What does the DMV charge for plates and titles? Have you taken that into budget? You need to if you haven't. If you say your not going anywhere until you have a car, well that implies you don't go anywhere now. Do you have a job to support owning a car? They are a pain in the buttocks I assure you. This I know all too well b/c I'm an old cuss & have owned cars for 25 yrs now. Gas where I live is just about $4/gl. It totally sucks here. That means on my income I don't go to many places either. When I do, it's a well thought out route with purpose. That's what I think you need to be thinking about. G'luck!
