My husband recently enrolled in athem health insurance through his job. Since then we have found out that he will be leaving his job to enlist in the military and we also will not be able to afford to live with them taking so much for the insurance. The policy does not go into effect until January 1. How do I cancel the insurance before the policy takes effect.

It is very doubtful that you will be able to cancel. If the company has a pretax health care plan, you cannot change or cancel it during the year, unless a qualifying event occurs. When your husband enrolled he would have authorized this.

When your husband leaves the job, that will be considered a qualifying event and at that time, you can cancel the insurance.

You can cancel when he leaves.

Have your husband call the HR department at work.
