How to cancel brand new health policy?

My husband and I had a guy from Mega Life aka HealthMarkets and Alliance come to our home this afternoon for health insurance. We ended up signing up and giving him two checks he said would not be deposited till next week. After he left I looked up more information on them and I do not feel comfortable being insured by them. Can I call him and tell him we are no longer interested? I mean technically nothing is being processed till Monday so he could just give it back but the question is will he? Anyways is their a time frame to cancel? Its actually the same day lol.

Most states have a free look period of at least 10 days in which you can cancel the policy with no penalty. If the policy has yet to be issued you should be able to cancel at no cost to you.

Your bank will probably charge you a fee for putting a stop payment on the checks. You should call the agent immediately and tell him that you've had a chance to review the policy and you've decided it's just not right. Ask him to write void on your checks and return them to you, but that you've already called your bank to stop payment.

He will really push you to say yes, but stick to your guns! This company has a really bad rep and they're in a world of hurt.
