Is Having Children A Requirement For Navy Command Sponsorship On Oversea Pcs?

Postby Alonzo » Thu Oct 12, 2017 7:58 am

My husband just got orders to Sasebo, Japan and we are still trying to figure out if I will be able to go with him or not.
I've been doing a lot of reading online and I read in a military forum that if you don't have children your overseas tour will not be command sponsored. Is this true? I will post the info I found below. http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/...

7.) Special note if there are no children: Your spouse will not be authorized an accompanied tour if you are the only dependent and you were denied. This means that you will not get base housing or OHA. So take great care in deciding to move anyway because it is quite expensive. Have your spouse find out if they are authorized to move off base. If so, do a lot of research on finding the cheapest housing you can. Living expenses are quite high here. I was never a coupon person in the states, but now I won't step foot in the commisary without my rewards card and a packet full of coupons. Expensive! I am not saying it can't be done and certainly with high enough pay grade the issue becomes less serious, but do everything you can to ensure this a financial journey you two can weather. I would recommend that your spouse contacts someone in their potential gaining office or shop to ask about area specific expenses. Insurance on vehicles is due upfront and there are a lot of inspections that the car may need right away. Etc.
