First of all read BLACK REDNECKS AND WHITE LIBERALS by Thomas Sowell.

It will shock you to learn that slavery was a worldwide issue even before America

ever came into being.

Between the 1500s and the 1800s about one million WHITE europeans were

enslaved by Barbary Coast pirates.

Hundreds of thousands of blacks were captured in sub-Saharan Africa and sent

up as slaves for the Ottoman Empire...there was a long trail littered with the bones

of blacks that didn't make it.

Slavery was an accepted practice in China long before whitey set foot in America.

Slavery was an accepted practice in North America before whitey set foot on this continent.

And it was the British in the 18th century which started a worldwide crusade to end

this practice...even fighting battles to end it...no other countries did so...no other countries

even admitted to the moral repugnance of slavery.

Sowell explains it so much better...read the book.

Wow, I'm kind of new to this whole politics thing. However in my youth my gay parents who I really ******* hated. (typical white guy here lol) thankfully I am not gay. anyway I rarely run into a black guy who doesn't look dangerous. and when I do they are always extremely ******* depressed. I have wondered what it would be like to be a white man in india aside from all the bullshit I hear on the news. Anyway what I'm getting at is that even though there have been many atrocities that white people have made. I can say that the Jews also have a bloody history. And that really is what it comes down to, history, and how accurate that history is. In the end the more accurate the history the darker things get.

Slavery existed for thousands of years before the united states ever existed. By the time the country was founded, slavery was pretty much an accepted practice worldwide. There were certain corners of society that didn't believe in slavery and thought it ought to be abolished.

A lot of it has to do with environment and conditioning. If you were raised in a world were your own kind was suppose to be superior and every other race in your particular area were slaves you would probably feel as the white woman. Take ancient egypt for example, egyptian royals did not think of their slaves to be on the same level as them. Also consider how animals are viewed by the average human. You would not think of your cat to be something to spend hundreds of dollars on because you are conditioned to believe it is an animal and has a certain role, but you would be willing to spend hundreds on a person you loved.

Black people were dehumanized so it was much easier for people to deal with. After all, if they thought of them as animals it didn't matter.

Human Zoos were very popular at the time... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_zoo

If you think the recent fiscal cliff impasse was bad, the debate on slavery in the Constitutional Convention of 1787 was far worse. The Articles of Confederation the country was running under, was unworkable any longer. A new Constitution had to be made for the country to survive. The Southern states were intransigent in budging on the issue of slavery. Slavery was necessary for their economic survival (picking cotton was very labor intensive). The convention had no choice on the matter either turn a blind eye on slavery or no Constitution. They reluctantly went with the prior.

Although slavery was allowed, the 3/5 clause of the Constitution was a tool to limit Southern states from using slaves in calculating their representation. Expansion of slavery was also limited. Limited expansion was a time bomb that let to the Civil War in 1861.

Your question is not one of hate. Unfortunately, too many people see honest questions and attempt at dialog that simply involve whites and minorities as somehow, hateful. It's sad.

it's hard to understand how it went on for so long. I doubt we will ever truly understand it. I think slave owners really saw the slaves they owned as property and not people. makes no sense to me, but that's what they thought.

There is hate on both parts, whites hate colored people, and colored people hate whites.

You just cant pin point one lot, it's disgusting which ever way you want to look at it.

We all bleed red blood.
