I am insured but i dont really know what to do,they sent two people out who fixed the leak and claimed they would send a report to there superiors. It all sounds a bit dodgy can anyone give me advice.I dont want to claim my own insurance as i have to pay first. What should i do.

I would REALLY check you insurance again THOROUGHLY (and maybe give your insurers a call to check)

cos most normal household insurance DONT cover damage caused during building work (including damage caused by pipes leaking as a result of the building work)
(its in the part where they list what they EXCLUDE and then list the circumstances where they DO NOT cover damage)

If yours does then you are VERY lucky

Normally any damage should be paid by the builders insurance not yours

(did you check that the builder had insurance for any damage they might cause? )

I would go through the builders insurance. Or sue the company in court.

Do not claim off your own insurance as this could put your premium up when you next renew, plus they may not accept the claim as the damage was not caused by you but by an outside party. The company who insulated the loft should mend the burst pipe and pay for any other damages arising.

Write to their head office and if hey don't want to put it right, get an independent quote, and ask them to pay for it. If they won't take them to the small claims court. You can do this online.

Hi,
1. the company that you hired must be licensed contractor, therefore they must have insurance.
It is the company responsibility to mitigated the affected areas as per IICRC S500 guide line.
The insurance details should be listed on the contract.
You always contact your contractor state license- they can guide you and help you more then you think.
2. You can (but not advised) use your insurance company for the claim, the water loss was accidental and should be covered.
3. You should contact your insurance and let them know about the issue, you don't have to activate the claim and your history record will stay clean.
* from experience, most companies will want you to use your home owner insurance and they will pay you the deductible and the estimated new premium. it is the fastest way to fix your property if the company doesn't want to "damage" their insurance. This move is 100% your call
