Sorry, but Saif is day dreaming. You will not be fine ! Your appeal will almost certainly fail. Your present circumstances will evoke no sympathy from the bench. The thing is they will have heard every excuse you can think of as to why the defendent was not really at fault and how badly the proposed penalty will affect them, most of which will have been pure fabrication. But the bottom line is you WERE guilty of the offence and there is a statuary penalty for that offence. Unfortunately, in law 'ignorance' is no defence. In other words, you being ignorant of the fact that your foster carer had taken you off his policy is not a defence. the onus is on the driver at all times to ensure they are complying with the law. I would also add that the bench would be highly sceptical that someone would take a named driver off their policy without letting them know. You should be aware that if your appeal fails ~ though i very much doubt there is any if ~ you will also have to pay court costs for the appeal on top of the original fine.
