Car insurance question help ACCIDENT?

Postby galterio » Thu Dec 01, 2011 12:06 pm

Hi

A slight incident happened today in regards to my car, I was stationary waiting , for somebody when a car on the road reversed into me.
She came out apologized etc and saw the damaged, which was paintwork chipped over the bumper.

Basically she offered to pay rather than I claim from her insurers, and also I just now called to let her know that I have actually found some quotes to rectify the problem and now she says that my paintwork maybe chipping!

So what should I DO I havent actually contacted the police or insurers yet.

Get a quote on paper, show it to her get her money, get it fixed. If it can be easily rectified without involving the insurers then it's best to do so because insurers cause endless amounts of hassle and phonecalls .

Don't understand what you're asking - 'now she says that my paintwork maybe chipping!' doesn't make sense, you said that was the problem in the first place.
In any event, there's no need to contact the police, and if she's offering a cash settlement, although not strictly what you should do, you should get the damage assessed & get the cash very quickly, and certainly within 48 hours - if she decides to renege on the deal, report it to your insurer - you weren't at fault so have nothing to lose.

Re additional info:
No problem - she either calls round first thing tomorrow with cash, or you contact your insurer. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONTACT THE POLICE FOR MINOR CAR ACCIDENTS WITH NO PHYSICAL INJURY.

The EXACT same thing happend to my husband and I was left to deal with it! She is going to be ***** now I can tell my best advice to you is.........
1- tell her how much it will be, if she agrees to pay. Happy days : )but get money up front, you dont want to go ahead with ot for her to change her mind then you left with the bill.

2- if she doesn't. google accident exchang they are GREAT : ) get there number, call them and tell them what happend and they will deal with EVRYTHING. All you need to have is her reg. This is 100% your best option because they will also give you a hire car free of charge while yours is getting fixed, they will sort out the garage for repairs also.

Best of luck, not that you need it because she is 100% liable.

I would definatly contact your insurance agent.. there are people everyday that say "oh I will pay for the damage lets not report it" A soon as they drive away there magically was no damage and they have no idea who you are.

She is at fault so either she pays up or you go through insurance. Personally if she is already playing up I would be on my phone to my insurers with her registration number.

Police don't need to know and will not be interested in the slightest now.

The police are unlikely to get involved unless there were injuries as it is a civil matter between the two drivers and their insurers.

As the other driver was clearly at fault, I would just advise the other driver that if she does not co-operate with you, you will go through the insurer and she will lose her no claims discount. Although you may not be able to see it, there will be minute traces of the paint from her car at the point of impact, so if there is any dispute, your insurer will have evidence to support your case, and she will struggle to get out of it in court. She will be asked to give a statement, and it is against the law to lie on a claim form, so if she says she didn't bump your car and it can be proved that she did, there could be fraud charges brought against her for giving a misleading statement.

you should have asked for money before she left, if it was a small damage atleast you should asked for £50 before she went off.

now time has passed, you can't do anything now, if she pays you then your are lucky if not you can do nothing.

lets say she doesn't agree you contact the police, i am sure you have no evidence, her car is fine at the back so you won't be able to do anything. if you phone the insurance then they will contact her insurance company and both of you both will fill in forms and both insurance company's will fight for their customer and in the end you have no proof, so your insurance company will fix it for you and your insurance premium will go sky high for nothing

she is not from heaven to speak the truth, why did you beleive her and let her go on that day when she hit your car!!!

And one more thing if its really a small chip in your bumper then you might as well leave it because its normal.
