Can you lie to your insurance and say you are married when you are not?

Postby rainier » Sun Jan 27, 2013 2:38 am

just curious. I noticed that if I had lied I could be saving 8 dollars a month.

I find car insurance to be a horrible scam as it is

Let's see $8 a month = $96 a year saved.

Lawyer to try to keep you out of prison after you get caught and are arrested for insurance fraud: maybe over $10,000.

Lost wages if you have to spend a year in prison for insurance fraud: $10,000 to $100,000

Cost of fixing or replacing your car, yourself, with your own money, without using insurance, because they won't cover you if they discover you lied: $1,000 to $20,000.

Amount you have to pay if you cause someone else to be injured or killed and your insurance won't pay because you lied: maybe $10,000,000.

I have not added up the total, but it's pretty clear that a lie will cost more than it saves.

Sure you can! Lots of people lie! Ironic, that you, complaining about scams, are trying to scam the insurance company!

To get the married discount, you have to list your spouse, and their date of birth and license number on your policy. You cannot take them off, without proof that you got divorced. So YOUR scam is going to backfire.

Sure you can lie, but if you get caught it might be considered fraud which will cost you way more then $8.

No, you won't get away with it. Your insurance will find out.
Is a measly eight bucks really worth a fraud charge?
