Can I Take My Pet Rat To Petsmart Vet For A Basic Check Up?

Don't take him to petsmart as they more than likely won't agree to see him.

You need to find a veterinarian close to you that sees exotics. Rats technically aren't "exotic" but those are the vets that will agree to treat them.

We lost one of our pet rats recently and it was difficult to find a vet that would see her. You really need to call around first. Traveling is very stressful on rats, so if you insist that he get a wellness check, find an exotic vet and call to schedule an appointment to insure they'll see him.

Otherwise, since he's playful and eats well, it really isn't necessary to take him, since it would stress him which could then lead to illness. Stress weakens the immune system and could pave the way for an infection to take hold. Rats have a bacteria in their nasal passages that can cause a lot of issues if the immune system is weak enough. I doubt traveling would lead to that, but it's a good thing to consider.

It would be smarter to take him to a small animal vet but pet smart would probably take him because they sell rat stuff. I personally use a small animal vet they are more experienced with rats.

It depends on the PetSmart.
Some do treat exotics, and some don't.
The PetSmart closest to me only treats cats and dogs.
But another one slightly further away treats exotics like rats, mice, gerbils, and hamsters.

Go to this page and find a PetSmart near you.
http://www.banfield.com/Pet-Owners/Our-H...
Click on the specific location and read the description to see if it mentions them treating exotics.
If all else fails, give them a call and ask.

I just wanted to say how sweet I think it is to offer the little guy a happy life! I hate seeing assholes go out of their way to give domesticated snakes domesticated rodents as food...anyways, I'm not positive on your question so if I were you I'd definitely just give Petsmart a call! They can absolutely answer your question since the vet is in-house. If I were to guess, I'd say it could absolutely be done! They are veterinarians after all.
