You can use the FAFSA 4Caster to help you figure out what amount of financial aid you may be eligible for:
https://fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/f4cForm?execution=e2s1

Also, if you have identified the school to which you want to apply/have applied, you can hold conversations about financial aid with a financial aid counselor at the school, either by phone or in-person.

For the 2012-2013 school year, starting Fall 2012, the FAFSA application will not be available until Jan 1. 2012:

Since the employment picture is still tough in the USA, once you are accepted by the school, you may wish to look into on-campus employment. Generally, the campus fin. aid office oversees the on-campus job postings. Good things: the jobs are just for students, scheduling work and class schedules is usually easy, transportation to/from classes to/from job is easy; usually the campus food service and the library need the largest number of student workers - I suggest the library. Not so good things: the jobs are not glamorous; they usually pay minimum wage or just a bit higher. A paying job IS a paying job!

If your parents are willing to let you live at home rent free, and you qualify as an independent student, you very well may get enough to not work while in school. That said, you should NOT take out loans over what you need for education unless you are absolutely certain you will have a job 6 months after graduation that will let you make full payments to your loan. It would be better to work at least part time while in school in order to pay for your bills than take out loans that have to be repaid with interest.
