Can i leave an uninsured car on the side of the road?

Postby frederik86 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 6:24 pm

Any unused car (except museum car or car in motor trade premises etc) must have insurance and the owner must declare SORN to the DVLC.
It is an abandoned vehicle without that and can be taken away to be crushed.

No, you cannot do this since it is against the law to do so. It is legal, however to leave it parked in a driveway or a car park.

No, any car on the road must have its own insurance. This also means that you cannot drive it unless you have a traders insurance etc. Your insurance will be void should you drive it.

No you can't is the answer. People who do this are a nuisance and should be prosecuted.

Any car on a public road must be insured. Some states like NY require an insurance sticker on the windshield. States like New Jersey have a bar code on the registration sticker that can be read for information about registration , address, and insurance. You take a big chance by leaving it parked on the curb. Never drive the car yourself without officially adding it to your policy. This car is not legal. As long as you keep it parked in the proper spot it won't be under suspicion. Don;t give a policeman a reason to look at it closely ...You got 30 days to go ...Good Luck.
