Can I Get Prescriptions From A Psychiatrist And A General Practitioner?

Postby Corann » Sun Oct 08, 2017 1:40 pm

I take Celexa 30mg a day, and Klonopin 2mg a day. These are prescribed by my psychiatrist. I want to try adding Wellbutrin, but I always feel weird about asking my psychiatrist about changing my meds..I'm paranoid he will think I'm doing something illegal or unhealthy, which I'm not. But anyway. I have a friend who gets his antidepressants prescribed by a psychiatrist, and his Ativan from a GP. How can I go about doing this so that one doctor doesn't know what the other is doing? I don't use insurance when paying for prescriptions; I pay using a debit card without insurance. I only use my insurance to pay for the doctor visits.

I would prefer no answers telling me to be open with my psychiatrist. I'm really paranoid that he will mess with what he currently prescribes me.

With electronic medical records becoming common, the doctors will find out, and might fire you as a patient and this record might follow you around (good chance they will make a note of it in your electronic record).
Doctors get really really really angry when patients do stuff like this. I really don't recommend it. If you are so paranoid that you can't talk to your psychiatrist, either see a therapist for paranoia issues, or you have a psychiatrist that you're not comfortable with, in which case you need to find a diffrerent one.

Doctors will add wellbutrin to SSRI antidepressants to try to counteract sexual side effects. I don't know about celexa specifically, but this was tried when I was on Cymbalta. So it's probably going to be ok, but the pharmacist will put it into his/her computer and check for interactions.

definite , the are waiting to prescribe any drugs. i think of it may be terrific to get a psych to weigh in on the alternative. no longer something incorrect with getting anothers drs opinion. be careful to no longer offend the gp.
