Can i be approved for food stamps? 21 junior college student, i live off student loans, disabled, cant work?

i am typing on a tracfone my parents pay for. Its hard to type on, sorry for grammatical errors...i am 21 and my parents pay my health insurance and this tracfone, including 30 dollars worth for medications per month. Other than that, they are in too much debt to help pay for anything. I live with a friend who cant afford to feed me. I do not get grants of any kind going to school full time, but i had to drop one class. I have bad interstital cystis and cannot work. I cannot even handle four classes anymore because im weak and malnourished. My IC is worst, probably because Im not eating. I take out loans to pay for school and use whats left over to pay for food and gas money to give my ride (i dont have a car). I dont know if i can get paid disability since i go to school, so i dont have it. So: can i get food stamps?

There is only one way of knowing what you can get or not get, contact the department of social services and if they can't help you ask the who can so that you do not spend hours getting the run around. Good luck young lady.

I used to work as a food stamp caseworker years about 10 years ago and at that time a person who was a college student and not working could not qualify for food stamps. The government had also implemented a work requirement basically stating that a person had to work the equivalant of the federal minimum wage x 20 hours a week in order to get food stamps unless they were disabled, over age 50, or had children under a certain age.
These stipulations in the laws rarely change, but all you can do is apply for food stamp benefits. But if I were you I would be applying for SSI as well as Medicaid benefits in the state you reside in.

It sounds to me as if you should be applying for SSI if you have a disability (not cystitis) and food stamps Students are still eligible for welfare.

Have you tried living on campus and getting financial aid. You could then get a meal plan through the housing department. It would solve your living and food arrangement.

I think you should certainly apply for food stamps and SSI/SSDI

is this what you mean?

have you tried this:
More recently, the use of a "rescue instillation" composed of pentosan polysulfate or heparin, sodium hyaluronate, lidocaine and sodium bicarbonate, has generated considerable excitement in the IC/BPS community because it is the first therapeutic intervention that can be used to reduce a flare of symptoms. Published studies report a 90% effectiveness in reducing symptoms.[45]

Sometimes these rescue instillations are given on a regular basis for treatment. It is important to note that this is off-label use for both pentosan polysulfate and heparin, as neither medicine has been approved to be used this way.

you can go to food pantries...

for food stamps--they count all household income...

it may be hard to get approved for SSI...it could take a few years....going to school will be a part of the eval....they will consider that as part of your functional status..but it is not an automatic disqualifer for SSI.

you may have to work a little and only take 2 classes at a time...look into taking online classes that may give you more ability to work

In some states, you can not receive food stamps if you use Fin Aid (Pell Grants, Student Loans, even Voc Rehab, WIA, etc...) to go to school -- they count your Fin Aid as income... despite the fact that it is used for tuition

Likewise, some other states specifically exclude the portion of Fin Aid that is used to pay directly for school costs (tuition, fees, etc)

So, check with your state to find out if college students who use Fin Aid to pay for classes are allowed to be on food stamps ---- I would encourage you to at least apply for Food Stamps & find out

Same thing with SSI.... apply & see

Have you tried Voc Rehab to help with school?
