Buying New Car; 1 Day Insurance?

Postby Pherson » Thu Oct 05, 2017 4:29 pm

I am going to look at a car soon, with intentions of making it into a winter project.

It is drivable, but I do not plan on driving it until summer.

I would rather not tow it home, but without insurance I dont want to drive it.

Is such a thing as 1 day insurance an option, just to get it home?

If so, how much does this usually cost?

If not, are there any other possibilities besides a tow?

State of Pennsylvania by the way.

Call your insurance company and tell them your story.
I'm sure they have an affordable fix yet legal way of dealing with this.

Speak with your insurance company.
I did something similar years ago and they included the other vehicle with my then current vehicle's insurance for the week that I had the other car on-the-road.

If you already have a vehicle that's insured, then probably yes.
You'd call up your agent / broker and tell them what's going on, and they'd add it to your policy just for a day (they call it hold-covered) so you can get it home.

If you don't have an insured car right now, foogedabboudit.
You'll never find one-day insurance from a legitimate insurer.
In fact, most insurance companies have one-time or trip policies right in their rule book on the 'stuff we don't touch' page.
They've all been burned many times over by that stuff (people always need just one more day), and now they won't go anywhere near it.
They don't trust anybody, so don't take it personally.

If you can't do the hold-covered thing, a towing company is what you want.
If anyone does offer one-day insurance, it'll be more expensive than a tow anyway.
