Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Do I Have A Right To Be Stubborn?

Postby Walbrydge » Tue Sep 26, 2017 2:54 pm

So Im living in student accommodation (a shared house) and about to move out in june. Before we leave (me and my 7 housemates) we have to thoroughly clean everything. Our landlady is fussy and insists it is done properly. The contract clearly states what is expected although it does not state that we must get it cleaned professionally as long as it is done well. The landlady has advised and suggested that we get in a cleaning company as it is such a big house. My housemates have taken to this idea and are now trying to persuade me to pay £63 towards getting professional cleaners in who do the whole house EXCEPT our bedrooms (i.e, lounge, kitchen, bathrooms hallways). Although we have to pay the same amount each, I don't see why I should have to pay into something that I don't want to. I'm a student, i can't afford £63! I'm perfectly capable of cleaning, and could easily clean my room and bathrooms to the standards expected. I need someone to tell me whether or not im being reasonable or whether im being awkward like they say i am. Help? Am i being unfair?

It's not unfair at all, if you can't afford it, It's not your fault, they're the ones being a bit unreasonable

1. If it is not in the contract then you do not need to hire a cleaning company.

2. Since you are a student and cannot afford to pay GBP 63 so your offer to clean your room and bathrooms is not awkward.

I clean houses for a living. Empty them out and clean up everything and dust and alll. And i get paid good money!! But trust me its not hard at all! Anyone can do it. So if you know you can do it. Your housemates are the unreasonable ones
